Please, undelete File:Farm-Fresh facebook.png

Hi Yann, I see that you have deleted File:Farm-Fresh facebook.png with edit summary "Exact or scaled-down duplicate".

First of all Farm-Fresh Web Icons is a special collection of 32 × 32 pixels icons that are made especially into that dimensions. No auto scaling down can produce the effect that hand made icons have. Making small icons is an art. So no svg of any size can be equal to a hand made 32 × 32 png.

Second, and more important, many icons and files in Commons are used by thousands of third party wikis worldwide via the InstantCommons feature. If you delete icons like that you may damage some other wikis. In this case File:Farm-Fresh facebook.png was used by a wiki of mine. Now I have to edit many pages and replace this file with some other one. Which takes us to #3.

Third, not all wikis have the capacity to scale down icons (either because they don't have ImageMagick installed by their hosting provider or because they don't have enough cpu for the scaling). Therefore I use Farm-Fresh icons mostly because they need no scaling.

So, for all those reasons I ask you to undelete/restore File:Farm-Fresh facebook.png or tell me how to do it myself.

Thanks! As I said, to my eyes this icon is unique. Nevertheless, next time you delete images you should at least make them redirects to the exact ones because otherwise you may break third party wikis that use them. And when I say exact ones I mean 100% same, with same dimensions. Because when people use 32 × 32 png's they don't usually scale them but use them as-is (they don't put size params inside the wikitext). So if you replace them with svg's then in those third party wikis, huge images will appear in the place where icons used to be. I think this is a major issue that must be mentioned in guidelines. Deletion of File:International Redhead Day 2011 - Internationale.jpg

Hi Yann,

I found that a photo I uploaded has been deleted. Can you advise me? I'm assuming that somehow I failed to provide the necessary info as to the commons license which the photographer has granted. Since I'd like to upload a different photo now, I want to make sure that I understand things correctly and that I can speak accurately to the photographer about it. The new photo by Max Nekrasov on Flickr, links to the summary of a "Generic CC BY-NC 2.0" license.

I'm not sure if you are the right one to speak with, but I found this note* in my user talk with your name under the deletion notification. When I clicked the notification link, I found this message* that seems to indicate the image was deleted by "INeverCry":

Cat FPCs

Hi Yann. I hope you don't mind me withdrawing that latest nomination. I think your original feeling on these was right, ie they're better as educational illustrations of some pretty rare breeds rather than FP material. You've got people calling a beautiful and very valuable purebred show cat "ordinary" and "funny looking". The same level of comments for the last cat pic from Titkov, even though these cats are likely worth more than these voters' cars when breeding value is considered. I remember someone calling the Bengal kitten ordinary (or something to that affect), even though, as a male breeder, that cat could easily make its owner a good 25,000$ or more in its lifetime. Pour les 2 derniers, pas de souci. La gare est seulement vaguement visible en arrière-plan. Pour le premier, c'est plus délicat. Certains prétendront qu'il y a un droit d'auteur de l'architecte, d'autres que c'est un immeuble ordinaire sans originalité. Dans le doute, il faudrait déplacer le fichier sur Wikipédia en français. Bem vou direto ao assunto... eu trabalho para a prefeitura de Iraquara na Bahia no setor de informática. Me foram disponibilizados os arquivos de Bandeira/Brasão para ser inseridos na página de Iraquara na wikipédia. Bem, até ai tudo certo, o problema é que sempre que faço o upload, dias depois são deletados. Sempre são alegados direitos autorais e bloqueia as contas que eu crio na tentativa de conseguir, já que tentei várias atribuições de licenças e nenhuma são aceitas. Além desses há um mosaico com imagens de domínio público cedias pela prefeitura para ser usada como foto/ilustração. I would like to request the following photographs be undeleted: Things That Go Bump In The Night poster.JPG -- Since I can't view the file - I'm assuming this was actually a photograph I had taken of one of the posters for the festival (photograph and use, by permission of the owner).

Things That Go Bump In The Night Film Fest (BUMP FEST).jpg -- This was the logo for the festival, which the owner had sent to me, and given permission to use.

Things That Go Bump In The Night Film Fest (block one slide).JPG -- This was a photograph I'd taken, by permission of the festival owner, and used with his permission.

They all seem to be logos licensed as CC 3.0, but I don't think they've been released as such. - These are DJVU files of books, they go in a DJVU Category, all book categories have them. There was one already in Books of India I didn't see and they should have gone in there, now they don't show up anywhere?? Where did you send them. They DO NOT go in Books from India, they have to go in a sub category just like all the other books from Countries. Where did you put them? Hello Sir, I wanted to upload an image from a Facebook page on wikimedia common but I know that Facebook images are non free and have no free license but still if I want to upload is it possible by taking permission from the owner of that Facebook page please guide me onto this. Possible copyvios

Hi Yann. Would you mind taking a look at File:Escudo APF actual.png it looks like a copyvio to me based upon apf.org.py, but it might be simple enough for {{PD-textlogo}}. Regardless, I don't think it's "own work", especially since the uploader's talk page is filled with copyvio warnings/notices. In addition, many of the files uploaded by this user (such as File:Logo AUF.jpg, File:Bandera Uruguaya 03.jpg, File:Bandera Partido Uruguayo.png) lack verification that they have been freely licensed or are photos of copyrighted merchandise. "File:Logo AUF.jpg" might even be a reupload of one of these, but I cannot see the deleted files to tell for sure. Bonjour, j'ai une question technique importante à vous poser. Je ne m'y connait pas vraiment en droit d'auteur. J'ai pour projet de réaliser un court métrage (documentaire de 30 minutes) et j'aimerais y intégrer des images de Wikimédia Commons (ce projet est donc à fins commerciales). Oui, "CC-BY-SA-3.0 Benh", c'est bon. Vous pouvez aussi ajouter "Wikimedia Commons". Il faut ajouter cela, soit à côté de l'image, soit à la fin du document, avec l'ensemble des crédits.
Une licence non-commerciale veut dire que vous ne pouvez pas utiliser le document dans les cas où il y a un aspect commercial : pas sur un blog s'il y a de la pub, pas dans un document s'il est vendu, pas lors d'une conférence si vous faites payer l'entrée, etc. Cordialement, Yann (talk) 23:24, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We should understand why Taiwan (ROC) cannot use its national flag in all Olympic affairs first, but it's a complicated political problem. In fact, I explained this to Fry1989, who was involved in edit war with me, then he accepted to use Taiwan's Olympic flag printed by London in 2012. Greeting, I have noticed that I recieve messages about my posting of some dopcuments, maps, pictures etc,wh9ich say how I usually violate the laws of USA and must name sources...So explain to me exactly, I have many book with maps of Serbian revolution which I want to post on wikipedia so that people can have exact infos of what was the battlefield terrai, the shape and number of fortresses etc etc...So under which licence can I use maps from certain book written in lets say 1979 or 1985(that is exact 31 years from publishing) since I am really tired of trying to draw maps for wikipedia... Hi Yann. You converted File:Newshub Logo.jpg to {{PD-textlogo}} with this edit, so I'm wondering if you have any suggestions on how to handle en:File:Newshub-logo.png. The two files are essentially the same, so the non-free one is not needed per en:WP:NFCC#1. Normally, I would tag the non-free one with en:Template:db-f8, but technically that doesn't apply since they are different formats. I could discuss this at en:WP:FFD or convert the file to en:Template:PD-logo (and also tag it with en:Template:Copy to Wikimedia Commons), but I am wondering if there's another way to simply just uploaded the new version directly to Commons to the existing file instead creating a new file entirely. Hi Yann, A while back you reverted a unilateral file move at my request here. At the same time, File:Flag of New Caledonia.svg was moved to File:Pro-Independence Flag of New Caledonia.svg without any discussion (and following a similar move request being declined), which is an equally poor name as the one you reversed. The move took place while there was an active deletion discussion on the image, in which there was no consensus for this rename.

I've raised this at File_talk:Pro-Independence_Flag_of_New_Caledonia.svg#Filename, but have got no response. Could you please consider reversing this unilateral page move as well, so that it can be properly discussed, or alternatively moving it to a more accurate title? Yann, I am not at liberty to share the email discussions between myself, the copyright holder and "photo submissions" wherein I was excluded after asking what we needed to do to fix the problem. The latter occurred despite the copyright holder's request to permissions to please keep me involved in order to help resolve the issue. Then there are the tags on the images pages which refer to OTRS account holders only - therefore private correspondence regarding the issues I have been excluded from despite being the uploader and with requests by the copyright holder to keep me in the loop. That's what I mean by "shrouded in secrecy". With regards to "meritless", the copyright holders have provided very clear ownership statements to permissions which also include the necessary publishing license under CC-BY-SA 4.0 but that doesn't appear to be enough based on the tags. I don't know to what depth OTRS is required to go to prove copyright ownership or if it includes delving into private contractual agreements which seems to be against WP policy regarding anonymity. Suppression d'une révision

L'école Franco-Indienne Sishya (EFIS) de Chennai : Compléter fiche existante en anglais et créer sa version en français

Je suis totalement novice et malgré toutes mes lectures de méthodo, de codes HTML et protocoles sur les licences image, je n'arrive pas à créer un document de qualité.

J'ai bien importé des fichiers, mais ils sont mal définis en terme de droit image et oeuvre intellectuelle, alors ils risquent d'être supprimés.

J'ai également essayé de créer la fiche école avec petit encadré image et mini résumé sur l'école "infobox school" mais en dehors du bac à sable, la vraie fiche ne prend pas forme.

en résumé voici sur quoi j'ai besoin d'aide :

- mettre les bonnes infos licence sur les 3 docs dans wikimedia pour qu'ils soient utilisables (le logo de l'école, la brochure et une photo du bâtiment de l'école prise par moi)

- mettre en forme mon brouillon français avec le modèle école et "infobox school" pour que cela soit esthétique et bien structuré

- faire le lien avec la fiche "L'école Franco-Indienne Sishya" existant en anglais par un autre contributeur

- compléter la fiche anglaise avec le même contenu que la fiche française mais traduit biensûr

La première chose à se demander, c'est si cette école remplit les critères pour obtenir un article sur Wikipédia (en français et en anglais, les critères sont de même nature, mais les détails sont spécifiques à chaque langue). En bref, il faut que l'école soit notable, et que cela puisse être prouvé par des références dans des livres, journaux, revues, ou sites web, etc.

En fait je ne comprends pas ce qui s'est passé.

J'ai bêtement utilisé le nouveau tool "crop tools" pour détourer des figures d'un bouquin de M. Curie. J'ai vérifié les noms quand cela se justifiait et.. je l'ai laissé faire.

Tout ce que je vois actuellement dans ma liste de suivi c'est 2 séries d'actions :

En fait cet outil copie les catégories du fichier d'origine, ce qui habituellement bien, sauf ici pour la catégorie Category:Files uploaded by Yann Forget, qui sont les fichiers que j'ai importés moi-même. Deletion

Dear Yann, Can you please help me to file my complaint in the right place, rather than to point out that is was in the wrong place? Also, I did not call anyone a vandal, I stated that an entry had been vandalized. In my opinion, when a group of academics use their time and skills to create text and figures for the public, and is then deleted without any good reason, that is what it is. I find if very strange that 1 person (I don't know which status this person have in the system) can do this.

It has to do with some files uploaded by BaranKurd, one of which you converted to {{PD-textlogo}} with this edit back in November 2015. Destruction de la page JE LUTTE DONC JE SUIS

Bonjour Yann,

Je vous signale que la page du film JE LUTTE DONC JE SUIS est sur le point d'être détruite.

Je me permets de vous alerter car j'ai vu que vous avez placé son teaser dans Wikimedia Commons et qu'il a même été média du jour en janvier dernier.

Bref, j'avoue que j'en suis assez choquée, car j'ai trouvé ce film remarquable et, surtout, parce qu'il connait un succès indéniable, sans l'aide des médias commerciaux ni des circuits conventionnels.

Et c'est là que je veux en venir : il semblerait que ce soit ça qui choque les censeurs : le manque d'article dans la "grande presse" et la forme peu institutionnelle de l'œuvre. Autrement dit : - wikipedia, outil horizontal et collaboratif exigerait une "reconnaissance verticale" de "l'élite médiatique", en plus du succès populaire indéniable du film. - wikipedia, outil gratuit et généreux négligerait une œuvre en créative commons, gratuite sur internet et qui a le mérite de financer la solidarité autogestionnaire en Grèce, parce qu'elle n'est pas dans le business du cinéma. Il me semble que c'est assez choquant et que ça devrait donner à réfléchir.

Pour essayer d'éviter cette destruction, je suis en train d'essayer de compléter les informations sur le film, mais je n'ai pas votre expérience et votre savoir-faire. Si vous avez le temps, merci de corriger mes probables erreurs, car cela fait très longtemps que je n'ai pas utilisé wikipedia.
