I tagged for speedy as F3, as a likely screenshot of a news broadcast. Disputed by uploader who claims it is their own work. Seawolf35 (talk) 00:28, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It’s clearly not a screenshot of i24news since i24news always has text at the bottom. I took it with my iPhone Mjszanto (talk) 03:18, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese Imperial Family uploaded by User:Camillz[edit]

These images of the members of the Japanese Imperial Family, uploaded by User:Camillz, shall be deleted for their copyright violation.
Some of them are screen-shooted from Japanese news sites or TV news (Nippon 24/7 news, Senkai news, FNNプライムオンライン), but this user doesn't show their permission. Some of them are from Niko Niko news, a sharing service by w:Niconico. This user claims that the person who took the video on the Niko Niko news are unknown, but it doesn't mean there are no legitimate copyright holders. This user also claims some of them are works by unknown authors, but no one can obtain permission from unknown authors.
While YouTube allows creators to mark their videos with a Creative Commons license, FNNプライムオンライン doesn't mark 'CC BY' on the video description[1].
This user clipped these images from video news without permission and unrightfully added license-tags to these files.--Kurihaya (talk) 03:27, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ankry (talk) 10:39, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ankry,
This picture is an appreciated simple copy photograph not crossing the threshold of originality (right?), of a 1543 work by Copernicus who died in the same year. But you're right that another copyright statement might be better, what do you think is appropriate, {{PD-text}} or {{PD-ineligible}}? (I have now tentatively chosen the last template.)
Thank you for your advice, Hansmuller (talk) 09:19, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion it's a deriviative work in which the original is out of copyright but we must also include photographer's copyright. It was not created by simple scanning but photographer actively contributed to the composition, perspective and depth of field. Their part of copyright in nowhere released under a free license so the file cannot be hosted on Wikimedia Commons. ~Cybularny Speak? 19:55, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reaction. So you think that the threshold of originality (Commons:Threshold of originality) indeed has been crossed by a simple sideways photograph. I feel that although well-intentioned this is too generous in this case, and that the sole copyright of Copernicus himself (which has lapsed as you wrote) should be honoured. But i have additionally acknowledged Reuters in the |author= field of the metadata, as should be fair. Thank you, Hansmuller (talk) 09:20, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Belka and Strelka 2020 postcard of Transnistria.jpg[edit]

Apparently the laws of Moldova apply to Transnistria. Per Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Moldova stamps of Moldova are free of copyright due to being "State emblems and official signs (flags, armorial bearings, decorations, monetary signs, etc.)" It's unclear to me how that would apply to the photograph of the dogs on the bottom of the postcard though. As it isn't a State emblem or official sign and from what I can tell there's no wider exception for government works in general, assuming the photograph was taken by a government employee to begin with. I think the photograph actually originates from the USSR. So the image should be deleted as COPYVIO unless someone can provide evidence to the contrary. Per Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Russia Russian stamps are free of copyright. @Jeff G.: I have no clue. You'd have to ask on the talk page of Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Latvia. Its a little out of the scope of this DR though. I'm just following the guideline and it wasn't my change to begin with. --Adamant1 (talk) 11:00, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ww2censor: Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Latvia was changed a year ago after a short discussion to say that Layvian stamps are probably copyrighted, which was after Materialscientist uploaded the images. It has nothing to questioning their experince. The guideline just changed. As happens sometimes. Maybe its just me but I don't think images should be kept despite a change to a guideline just because of how long the uploader of said images have had their account for. That's not how this works. --Adamant1 (talk) 11:00, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If that is the case AND the law is retroactive, then Materialscientist should be aware of this nomination so they can comment if they think appropriate. Ww2censor (talk) 11:33, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I assume they were notified about it when I nominated the images for deletion. I don't see why they wouldn't have been. Although if they have an opinion about it or issue with the guideline being changed then the better place to do it would be the talk page of Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Latvia. As I'm not the one who changed the guideline and I don't think a random DR is really the appropriate (let alone best) place to question said changes either. --Adamant1 (talk) 16:44, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The flickr account has a lot of found photos, bought on ebay, etc. Interesting as they may be, for most of them the flickr user doesn't know their authors (some authors are identified), doesn't own the copyright and can't issue a license. wrong license, probably copyright violation Xocolatl (talk) 18:27, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why is this picture a copyright violation? The picture was taken in the 1950's and used in a book in 1999? Is it still protected then? Isabellerottiers (talk) 11:40, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
1950s? Hm, this could be either case. If the person who took the photo died in 1953 or earlier, then it's really free. If the photographer died later, the photo becomes free in 70+1 years after the death.
If the photo was published (by the photographer or their heirs) for the first time in their book in 1999, then it might even be a case of 70+1 years after death of the publisher.
This whole thing was flagged because the description date says "1991" (not 1950s, and not 1999) and all of these dates don't work with PD-US (published in the US prior to 1929). I would suggest using a PD-NL. --Enyavar (talk) 09:03, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt the claimed CC-by-4.0 license, and doubt "The National Police of the Netherlands" are the author and copyright holder of a Mexican passport. Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 18:57, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This file was initially tagged by Janik98 as Copyvio (copyviol) and the most recent rationale was: Official logo of political party. The source given doesn't back the claim of licensing under "Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International" and the logo is too complex to be considered under the threshold for public domain: COM:TOO Italy argument possible —Matrix(!) {user - talk? - uselesscontributions} 19:37, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I will just add that most files uploaded by Yempo Yes have been deleted for copyright violation. All of them were logos of political parties with the "own work" description.--Janik98 (talk) 09:31, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Delete, per Enyavar. The first has a copyright claim in the image; the others are very likely copyright violations too. Marbletan (talk)

OK. Where did the copyright holders release the image as cc-by-sa-4.0? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 20:02, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Out of scope: 2 counts of personal fantasy maps; one count of unsourced "historical" map that supposedly shows the Achaemenid Empire in decline, by deleting seemingly random regions from the map. All unused.

The non-free file this image was derived from was deleted many years ago on the hiWiki. I don't entirely understand the commons deletion policy, but having (what I assume to be) a cropped version listed under a cc-by-sa 2 license feels dodgy. This was made a couple of years back and has since become outdated and could be misleading. The bee network is expecting to cover the whole city in the next year or two, at that point a map can be made which is expected to be more stable in terms of bus routes. عبد المؤمن (talk) 22:22, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Derived from now-deleted image. The original image was deleted because "there is another image", which likely implies that the original image wasn't free. Therefore, this one won't be either. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 23:43, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dumb meme image I made almost two decades ago. I don't know why it is here. It is not used in any articles nor should it be. Would prefer it be removed since it bears my name and home town and comes up when searching for me. Foofy (talk) 23:56, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To be clear I did not upload this image and I'm not sure why someone else did. Foofy (talk) 00:55, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To be clear, this is not my image, I do not hold the copyright. I took the image from some other site and added the fake screenshot to it. The CC licensing was probably something set on my Flickr account, but obviously wouldn't apply to an image I didn't create myself. Foofy (talk) 14:31, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
