Comment Agree that UK license needed. Disagree that "authorship is almost certainly wrong"; taking a time delayed photo was fairly simple for even a dabbler in photography in the 1890s. No one else is credited. There is copy of the book online at [1]. Might well be out of copyright in country of origin, unfortunately info on author George J. Nicholls seems rather thin. These graphs make zero sense due to the break in the line and overlap between them in 2010. So they should be deleted as OOS due to the inaccurate data. Or did the population completely die off while being replaced to about the same level at exactly the same time?

Hello,

The graphs rely on the official figures of the statistics department of Brandenburg and Berlin. Due to the census 2011 there have been two figures for the yearend of 2011. Under Bevölkerungsentwicklung und Flächen der kreisfreien Städte, Landkreise und Gemeinden im Land Brandenburg 2011 you find that the population of Ahrensfelde on December 31st, 2011 was 13002 inhabitants. When you open Bevölkerungsentwicklung und Flächen der kreisfreien Städte, Landkreise und Gemeinden im Land Brandenburg 2012 you find that the population of Ahrensfelde started the year 2012 with 12727 inhabitants. This drop of 275 within a day was the result of the new figures that came up with the census in 2011.

This gap of nearly 2% of the population of Ahrensfelde resulted from the difference between the yearly update of the local registers and the data collection from scratch done by the census. The city of Berlin lost about 180,000 inhabitants due to the census. The single big reason were foreign students. In order to start their studies they had to register with the local authorities. But when they finished their studies and went home, they often forgot to check-out. So they stayed as sleeping members in the statistics. Only the census made evident that they weren't inhabitants of Berlin any more.

When I devised the graph I thought about just let the "figures flow". But this would have lead to steep unaccountable drops with a lot of municipalities. So I decided to have an overlap and a break in 2011. This is explicitly to show that there is a special situation. I admit that I should give a hint about this interruption of the line. Since in 2024 the figures of the 2022 census will be published with new breaks and overlaps I will include a remark in to the graphics when update it.

I feel offended by the accusation of using inaccurate data. As you have seen I only use the officially published data. I would have preferred that you contacted me in order to find out what the reasons of the graphically anomalities are. Please retire the deletion request.

Thanks for the explanation. Just to clarify, by "inaccurate data" I meant the graph was inaccurate, not the data that you based it on, which it seems like you agree with. I guess you could explain the overlap and disparities better in the file descriptions or something, but graphs don't usually have breaks or overlaps like that to begin with. Usually there's a dotted line or something going up or down like in File:Bevölkerungsprognosen Ahrensfelde.pdf to signify a major change in the numbers. Otherwise it looks like the population was both the old and new numbers at the same time and that they are separate data points, which is clearly wrong. --Adamant1 (talk) 19:46, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Based on source research in zhwiki, the SVG version of this file (File:CJZ1.svg) has been updated to correct possible erroneous flag representation. In order to completely eradicate calls that are still using this wrong file, I think this file should be deleted to make error be noticed to correct it to the correct file. We have been trying for many months to get the photo of Grace Strobel reinstated to her Wiki page. By "we" I mean Grace's mother, Linda Strobel, and I, who was paid a very small fee to help her establish a page for her daughter. We filed the copyright ownership form last year and received no response. Penultimately, Linda acted on her own with promising results--at least in communication--but again, we were frustrated that the photo was not undeleted. Finally, I added the copyright information to the photo and uploaded this fresh version of the photo.

Trying to build this page (for the wife of a client) has been the most frustrating experience of my writing life. The process is overly complicated, necessitating the consumption of many, many pages of information, following links to more indiscernible instruction, and repeatedly failing to satisfy governance. Don't worry; I'm almost gone forever. Once the Grace Strobel page is in good condition, I shall leave this to those of you who live in it. Clearly, Wiki newcomers are discouraged from participating.

The original source does not mention the date, and I couldn't find any other source that does.

Based on a slight resemblance between the figures, I assume that if it is a painting, it is based on a partial image of the figure from Wilhelm II's voyage to the Levant in 1898 in Jerusalem. This means it happened after 1898.

If "maps_by_vishal" and "kratant_maps" are describing the same person, I think a VRT ticket should be opened by uploader. (Great-looking maps by the way; the only bad thing are the repeated watermark patterns that obstruct the maps - if the copyright is cleared, I suggest the uploader should overwrite the previous uploads with more subdued watermarks, so that the maps are possible to use in Wikipedia.)

Comment Yes, I agree that the CC license can't be revoked. However, I can understand Suresh Kumar Vakalapudi's point of view. A lot of other photographers who upload their work here feel the same about their photos being overwritten. Example texts/templates in this photo and this one, and I'm not very keen on it either since attempts are often not improving the photo. Yes, I have sinned against the overwrite in the past, but now I know better. So, I hope that Suresh Kumar Vakalapudi can agree to alterations being done if the new versions are uploaded as separate files (with appropriate explanations about what has been done and by whom), and the original remain untouched.

So far this discussion has been very polarized, which is most unfortunate. Suresh Kumar Vakalapudi is not acting so differently than most of our top photographers would if they found themselves being sidestepped and their work overwritten, yet FPC regulars come here an say (in very harsh language I might add) that he must endure having his files overwritten. Why is no one even considering the middle ground of creating new files? When this option is clearly stated in Commons's rules. Just because Suresh Kumar Vakalapudi is new and still unknown to the project, doesn't mean his work shouldn't be respected the same way you would that of say Poco, Diliff, Charles, etc. No one would dare to treat their photos, or them, this way. Keep keep. At the same time I can only second Cart’s comment. IMHO any signficant edits of photos by other users should be uploaded as derivative versions under a new filename. We should update our overwriting policy in that respect.
